5G Small Towers & Budget Cutting in Fountain Hills

WHAT: Summary of May 2 2023 Town Council Meeting

After extensive debate and public comment, the four conservative Councilmembers (Friedel, Kalivianakis, Skillicorn, & Toth) voted in favor of a moratorium on approval of 5G small towers until an ordinance can be crafted to provide reasonable protection of residents and property owners. Further discussion is scheduled for the June 6 Council meeting.

The Tentative Budget for the upcoming fiscal year was presented. Councilmember Skillicorn stayed true to this campaign promises to enact fiscal restraint and responsibility by attempting to remove some capital projects from the budget. Final approval of the budget will occur at an upcoming meeting.

WHY:

The possible installation of 5G small towers in the right-of-way could occur in front of homes. There are concerns about possible health risks as well as aesthetics of these structures.

Government spending is a perpetual concern and Fountain Hills is not exempt. The issue is the support of prudent spending and prioritizing “must-haves” (like streets) over “nice-to-haves.”
